Maximus is an advanced simulation software designed to model Oil & Gas production systems and to optimise these systems in a variety of ways. Maximus is a fully Windows compatible software that operates with a Multi-Document Interface (MDI) meaning that several models can be open concurrently as shown in the figure below. The figure has two example models loaded: a large gathering network with about 130 wells and about 200 branches and a simple constrained depletion case with 3 wells connected to a reservoir.

At the heart of Maximus is a sophisticated Network Solver based on modern numerical algorithms and able to generate very accurate solutions. The Network Solver essentially constructs a large system of equations from all of the physical models comprising a given production system and then imposes the User’s boundary conditions before solving for the unknowns. This results in predicted oil, gas and water flow rates and pressures and temperatures through the production system as well as a host of other useful parameters, such as fluid velocities, holdups, compositions etc.
